Earth & Her Intergalactic Colonies
Earth & Her Intergalactic Colonies (from Original English) is the third planet in the Milky Way galaxy, home to the original humans, and is the fifth largest planet in its home galaxy. Earth's territory also includes a sister planet, New Earth, located in the Lapinoir galaxy and established as a human colony. New Earth is the second planet in the Lapinoir galaxy, and is the ninth largest planet in its galaxy; of planets inhabited by intelligent life, it is the smallest.
HISTORY
Early History
Humans have a long, detailed history which develops differently in various parts of the world. However, by 300 NISD (300 years before 0 ISD), they developed space-faring technology, capable of intergalactic travel. Although the only sentient planet in their own galaxy, humans believed quite strongly that there must be others in the universe. This resulted in the development of the United Pursuit of Intelligent Life Administration, or UPILA.
The War Era
In 215 NISD, shortly after sending off multiple voyages to explore known galaxies with notable radio patterns or planets capable of developing life, war broke out across Earth's world powers. At this time, Earth was still split into multiple governments with conflicting agendas, only barely united by an organization called the United Nations. After conflict was started by one of the more powerful factions of Earth, called the United States of America, nuclear war broke out, leading to massive atomic destruction.
All over the planet, continental damage was dealt, causing multiple planetary changes including a lengthening in the year by 121 hours, climate changes, and a severe impact to the atmosphere.
The Communication Era (Early Modern Era)
Earth's population took an immense toll, losing a devastating total of nearly 7 billion lives. With most of the earth blanketed in smog, radiation, or other deadly conditions, earth's population began to drop even more over time, the life expectancy dropping to only fifty years. Within only a year of the war's beginning, peace was called in favor of preserving human life. The United Nations was redesigned, becoming The United Nations Initiative. Each faction of Earth culture reshaped their government, following a system of living agreed upon for its efficiency and maintaining life.
Following after the United Nations Initative, UPILA's voyages returned, bringing news of foreign planets and alien species. Although this news came as a shock and a delight, the main priority became finding other planets which would be more suitable for life, given the Earth's decay. UPILA was rebranded, becoming the National Intergalactic Human Rehabilitation Expenditure, or NIHRE.
The Modern Era
By 90 NISD, a suitable planet was located. Originally dubbed the Ark, referencing an ancient human religious story about the preservation of life in the face of a devastating flood, as prospects began to grow more and more hopeful the planet was renamed New Earth. It took roughly fifty years to gather the resources necessary to begin setting up the colony on New Earth. A plan was designed, marking out space for the colony to self-sustain their own life with minimal assistance from Earth.
By 49 NISD, the colony was ready to be built. In the year 13 NISD, the colony building plans were complete, and the colonists were selected. By this point, actions had been carried out to boost human fertility, and volunteers were carefully screened for genetic downfalls. Twenty-five couples were selected, deemed physically, emotionally, and mentally fit for the program. Only young couples with no current pregnancy or children were selected, as the stress of intergalactic travel had yet to be tested on children or pregnant women, resulting in the decision to prevent any possible loss of life.
After only two years in the colony, the first child was born healthy, coaxing more life into the hopes for humanity's continued existence. By 0 ISD, the colony's population had risen from fifty to seventy-six.
At 3 ISD, three years after the Intergalactic Council's formation, the human presence on New Earth was discovered. Initially, the other intelligent life in the Lapinoir galaxy was enraged that the otherwise empty planet had been colonized with no communication to the rest of the galaxy, but after speaking with multiple representatives from both the colony and Earth, a compromise was reached, and Earth & Her Intergalactic Colonies joined the Intergalactic Council. It was determined that a representative would be selected from Earth to represent both Earth and New Earth until a child born on New Earth could represent the colony. In 16 ISD, a New Earth native, Lace del Gato, took the task, and has acted as representative since.
